sm^sher is the moniker of British artist and producer Imogen Mason. As one third of acclaimed London outfit Voka Gentle, Mason is no stranger to off-kilter electronics, boundary- pushing sound design and confronting lyrics, developing a formidable and unique creative vocabulary in the democratic environment of her band.

Now comes the producer's debut full-length solo album via Scrawl records: pit of mine. A visceral and tapestried tour of sm^sher's sonic world, the album weaves meditations on memory, grief, addiction, introversion and hope around industrial soundscape, locomotive beats, drone-backed folk song and collage.

As part of Voka Gentle, collaborations with artists from the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne to Animal Collective's Panda Bear and Spacemen 3's Sonic Boom have seen Mason rub shoulders with some of the most iconic musicians in her genre. Removing herself to the high desert of northern New Mexico for three months, Mason created the persona of sm^sher alone in a small adobe casita in the mountain town of Taos, dividing her time between field recording excursions into temperatures of -8°C and solitary beat-making and piano playing.

Upon returning to England, Mason met Harri Pittard, founder of experimental label Scrawl World. A plan was soon hatched; enlisting her twin sister and fellow Voka Gentle member Ellie Mason for mixing duties, sm^sher concluded the making of pit of mine in the summer of 2024.
